Have a #booksforbooks sale
Make space on your shelves for exciting new books and raise money for blind children to have new Touch to See books!
Do you have books at home that you have already read? Ask your teacher if you can have a book sale – maybe in the playground after school or during lunch break? Or if you go to an after school club, maybe the leader would let you have a sale at the end of the meeting? Encourage all your friends to bring in books they’ve already read. Pick a day for your #BooksforBooks sale and let everyone know all about it!
You will need:
Lots of books in good condition
A pot to collect the money
A friend to help you run the stall
Paper and sticky tape
Decide on pricing – we suggest 50p or £1 each
Make a big sign with the price to stick to the front of the table. You could make some extra signs for school notice boards and classrooms
Arrange the books on the table and you’re ready for customers!
Donate the money from your #BooksforBooks sale to Living Paintings so we can make new Touch to See Books for blind children
Bake Delicious Blackberry Muffins
Jess and Cooper went foraging for blackberries with their grown-up, then spent a wet August afternoon cooking up a storm and making blackberry muffins with the season’s early harvest. They donated the recipe to us because they want to raise money for Tayen’s #TruckLoadOfBooks.
Now it’s your turn to get baking! Donate just £2 to Jess and Cooper’s ‘Books for Tayen’ fundraising page and come back here to download the recipe. Why not raise even more dough by making a few batches and selling them to your friends, neighbours and work colleagues.
Mel Giedroyc reads the Blackberry Muffin recipe!
Make #ShareTheLove Bunting
Craft your own bunting mini-me and raise money for charity! This is the perfect group activity fundraiser for all ages – everyone donating to take part.
The Sinfield family had a crafternoon making bunting. Each family member crafted and collaged a mini version of themselves and strung them together to make ‘family portrait’ bunting! The Sinfields have donated the template and ‘how to’ to Living Paintings, so you can join in with this mega-easy make.
You will need:
- Loads of craft bits such as pens, glitter, sequins, fabric, wool, buttons, pom-poms, pipe cleaners, feathers, beads, dried pasta & lentils, flowers, leaves, shells…
- String or ribbon
- Hole punch
- Sticky tape
- Download and print out the template.
- Everyone create their self-portrait using glue and craft bits!
- Cut out self-portrait.
- Punch 2 holes using the little circles on the template as a guide.
- Thread a long length of string/ribbon through the holes.
- When you have strung all the self-portraits together, (to give the effect of holding hands!) use sticky tape to secure the string/ribbon to the back of the images.
- Hang up your masterpiece, step back and admire your craft work.
- Donate to Living Paintings for your #ShareTheLove Bunting!
Why Tayen wants you to Make Bake Donate for Living Paintings
“Tayen, aged 5, (known to everyone as Tots) lost her sight at 22 months old as a result of tumours on her optic nerves, caused by the condition neurofibromatosis or NF1.
Tots used to love reading before she lost her sight, and I thought her love of reading had gone. However, thanks to Living Paintings Tots has re-discovered her love of books with their free library of Touch to See accessible books. Living Paintings need to raise £50,000 to create more of the accessible books that my daughter loves. Please make, bake and donate to give Tots more stories to read, characters to feel and magical adventures to go on – just like with The Gruffalo! Thank you.”
Kali, Tot’s mum
